Alex is the cofounder and Partner at GECP, a direct investment fund with the stated goal of developing world class organizations through hands-on operations. He has dedicated his entire life to working with entrepreneurs, having been involved in the formation, development, and purchase of numerous entrepreneur-owned businesses.

 

Prior to GECP, Alex was the Founder and director of The Triniti Group, a strategy firm providing investment thesis development, due diligence, and transaction execution services to lower middle market private equity groups across the US.  Alex completed numerous engagements with some of the industry's leading institutional investors that collectively represent over $8 billion of assets under management.  Before Triniti, Alex was an associate with National Capital Merchant Banking, a family office focused on the Aerospace, Defense and Technology Services Industries. Alex began his career in the investment banking divisions of FBR Capital Markets and KippsDeSanto & Co. where advised family and entrepreneur-owned companies on the growth, recapitalization, and sale of their businesses.

 

Alex is the only son of Alex and Vera Makhotin, two serial entrepreneurs to whom he attributes his unwavering resolve and passion for the life of entrepreneurship. He received his MBA with concentrations in Entrepreneurship, Accounting and Finance from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business where he also served as teaching assistant for several of the University's highest rated entrepreneurship and investment courses.  Alex also received his B.A. with honors from The American University in Washington DC where he double majored in finance and international management with a minor in the French language.

 

Alex currently resides in Chicago and enjoys amateur car restoration, focusing on 50's and 60's era sports and muscle cars.
